In architecture, the term "folly" refers to a structure built for the amusement of the owner.
"Follies stem from passion, obsession, and suspicion. They also come from happiness, grief, and confusion. They can take any form, any style. A folly is a state of mind, not an architectural style. Follies can even have a use or purpose, whether that was in the creator's mind or not." — Gwyn Headley (“Architectural Follies in America”)

FIGURES – Synopsis
The German word gestalt, means "configuration," "figure," or any whole pattern with characteristics different from its parts. E.g., the tune of a song is such a pattern because it does not appear in the individual notes. Similarly, a sentence's meaning does not inhere in the individual words themselves but in the relations between those words. The essential point of gestalt is that in perception the whole is different from the sum of its parts.
Figures is a record about loss and recovery; a story in which figures are lost and figures are found. Familiar figures in one’s life exist as points of reference. They are people, places, states of mind, emotions. When these constants are removed, the skyline of our life changes; the shape of our world is altered. We experience things in a way that we hadn’t before. The choices we make and the way we function as a system are all fueled by a brand new energy. The character in this story (record) pulls elements from various people, belief systems, and inspirations to design new figures, in a quest to become whole again.
