1. Why doesn't my track show up on my page?

If you begin setting up an album, you must assign the tracks to it to make them appear on your page. Go to 'Manage My Page/Add Tracks To/Edit/Delete Existing Album and choose the album (click Change), then scroll to the bottom of the form. Or create a new album.

2. Why can't I upload a track?

Either the file is greater than 9.5mb, or it's not an mp3 file. At this time we only screen out wav files. If you try to upload a wav, you'll get an error message at the end of the upload. Convert your file to an mp3 and try again.

3. Why doesn't my track play?

The Noisehead player only works with mp3 files. If you try to upload another type (other than mp3 or wav - see above), the upload may be successful, but it won't play at the site. In that case, convert your file to an mp3 and try again. Sometimes even mp3 files won't play, if you're sure your track is an mp3, try editing the ID3 tags of the track.

4. Can I re-upload a track that doesn't play right?

If a track doesn't play after you've uploaded it, you'll need to delete it, fix it, and upload it again. Follow these steps to preserve your track's connection with comments and purchase histories. a) Write down the track name and genre/subgenre exactly as you set it up initially. b) Go to 'Manage My Page/Delete Track' and delete it. c) Upload track again with exactly the same track name and genre/subgenre.

5. Why don't my uploaded images don't show up on my page?

The uploaded images must be either .gif or .jpg's. If you upload another type, it will show up as a broken image.

6. How do I create or edit the ID3 tags of my track?

Recommended programs:

Windows:
- iTunes
- WinAmp
- AudioShell
- dbPowerAmp
- MP3 Tag Tool

Mac:
- iTunes
- MP3 ID3X

7. Why worry about ID3 tags?

ID3 tags are an internal part of the mp3 file (that is, not the file name) that identifies it to mp3 players like iTunes or iPods. It includes info like track title, artist, genre, album track number and even album cover art. The Noisehead site does NOT read the ID3 tags. It's important to have them set right so that when your track is purchased and downloaded, it retains its identification.

8. Can I change a track name?

Yes and no. Since purchase histories and the comments in the forum are connected to the track name, changing it will lose these important connections. So if you must change a name, it's best to do it immediately - before any comments or purchases are made. First delete the track with the wrong name, then upload it again using the correct name.

9. Why does my track play too fast (or slow)?

The issue with the "chipmonk" effect is due to the way that the mp3 was originally encoded. Noisehead's Flash player can handle most standard mp3 encodings with any bitrate. However, some mp3 encoders use "non-standard" encoding techniques that Flash cannot handle... Namely the MP3-PRO encoding scheme.

When a file is encoded with the MP3-PRO setting the file seems to play too fast and makes the audio sound as if it were made by chipmonks. The solutions is to re-encode your mp3's with a standard MP3 codecs. Noisehead will support CBR and VBR encoding -- at any bitrate.

dbPowerAmp is a good utility for encoding MP3 files. Using the standard settings in dbPowerAmp works great with Noisehead.

Additional notes:

- Always try and "set" every configuration. Leaving your compression utility to "auto" or "default" is probably not a good idea.

- Do not use 32-bit float, use 16-bit.

- Flash is known to have "issues" when the MP3 uses a frequency that is NOT a multiple of 11,025 kbps

- Ensure that the frequency rate is a multiple of 11,025:

- 11,025 kHz
- 22,050 kHz
- 44,100 kHz

- e.g 48 kbps is not good
